CEMRI – Mission and objectives

The Centre of Studies on Migrations and Intercultural Relations (CEMRI) is a scientific research unit accredited and funded by the Science and Technology Foundation (FCT). The Centre is hosted by the Universidade Aberta – UAb (Portuguese Open University).

CEMRI’s main mission is to undertake interdisciplinary research and advanced training on migrations and intercultural relations within national and international contexts, promoting the dissemination of scientific culture, post-graduate programmes, lifelong learning programmes, production of online learning materials and community outreach and engagement activities.

The Centre’s major strengths lie in its reputation for broad and diverse interdisciplinary research that includes research focusses, such as migrations and cultural diversity, intercultural communication, health, culture and development, media and cultural mediations and women’s studies – gender, society and culture.

The success of CEMRI`s activities in the field of migrations and interculturality show how the Centre`s pioneering scientific activities have been innovative and responsive to the new challenges posed by contemporary society.
